What Each Dosha Brings to Communication
An interdependent team only works well if it also knows how to talk to itself. How do Vata, Pitta, and Kapha types communicate, and how should we communicate with them?
There are different forms of expression depending on the three doshas. A Vata person tends to be extroverted, to talk a great deal, to readily put thoughts and reflections into words and conversation. Their communication is often creative, irregular, spontaneous, inspired. Vata generally has no problem being interrupted, because they play with language and with communicating with others: a noisy evening, a lively discussion, become for them like a dance with several partners, where people interact spontaneously, expressively, and where something unexpected is born.
For Pitta, it is a little different. Pitta likes to talk, but without excess: they like to lay out a sound analysis, to put the exact word on reality, precise and intelligent. They like to structure their speech, to speak clearly, to give fairly firm opinions. Every word goes in a direction, every word has a purpose: it is not for the pleasure of expressing oneself, but because it is useful, necessary. This makes them good communicators, because for them, speech is an essential tool for work to move forward, but also for life between people to function well. It is also, for them, a natural way of taking on the role of leader, of communicating with others, of giving a clear direction. Their speech is therefore very structured.
Kapha, for their part, tends to be more introverted. When they speak, they try to avoid conflict, and prefer to nourish communication through kindness, understanding, gentleness. A smile often replaces a word. What is particularly valuable in Kapha people is their listening: they are good listeners, and their support, their solidarity, show up as much in this listening as in their everyday behavior.
Three ways of speaking, then, but only one possible common ground: recognizing that each is legitimate, and that a team that knows how to let them coexist, Vata's spontaneity, Pitta's clarity, Kapha's listening, always communicates better than a uniform team.
